In 2018 the RIBA launched a design ideas competition ‘aiming to discover new designs for a modern garden city to meet the needs of the 21st Century, whilst recapturing the pioneering spirit that led to the development of the world’s first garden city at Letchworth’.

The competition sought conceptual masterplans for a 45 Hectare proposed residential development site to the north of Letchworth as an extension of the existing Garden City.

The competition encouraged inter-disciplinary collaboration and CE+CA was invited by Edge Urban Design to produce conceptual architectural designs for an urban block within their overall competition masterplan. The practice designed a scheme comprising a variety of housing typologies within the block intersected by a green route along an existing waterway.
