Repointing in Broomhill

Stonework repairs

The pointing to the stonework at our Broomhill project was typical of buildings of a similar age – poorly maintained, and repaired with inappropriate cement-based mortar. This often causes long term damage to the stone, as can be seen in the top photograph.

To allow work to continue safely during lockdown, the project team chose to carry out the stonework repairs ahead of the original programme. It has been a mammoth task to remove and replace the mortar, but the good weather means the work is nearly complete.

The bottom photo shows the transformation, made possible by using the correct materials and traditional techniques.
